Dubai bans e-scooters on trams and metro

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said on Thursday that people can no longer bring e-scooters on the metro and trams.

This rule is effective from today, Friday, March 1, 2024.

Earlier on Thursday, Dubai Police introduced a robot to catch people breaking the rules using bikes and electric scooters. The robot, which monitors rule-breaking, will be tested from March.

Recently there have been more complaints about e-scooter riders. Last year, many residents and drivers complained about e-scooters being parked anywhere, blocking sidewalks and taking up parking spaces in popular residential areas.

E-scooters have become very popular for getting around in Dubai over the past few years, with over 63,500 e-scooter permits issued as of April 2022.

Last month, services at the metro station were delayed for about an hour after smoke was seen billowing from an electric scooter.
